Functional rehabilitation at SSC of Chicago is not generic physical therapy. Every exercise program is designed specifically for your condition, your body, and your goals. Our approach is based on the McKenzie Method and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) principles — targeting the specific movement patterns and muscle imbalances that are causing or perpetuating your injury. We focus on bodyweight exercises that restore proper movement mechanics, build stability, and prevent re-injury. Most programs require no equipment and can be performed at home, at work, or at the gym. The goal is to make you independent — not to keep you coming back forever.
Your functional assessment identifies specific movement deficiencies — the weak links in your kinetic chain that are causing or perpetuating your injury.
Your doctor designs a targeted exercise program addressing your specific deficiencies. Each exercise has a clear purpose and progressions.
You'll perform the exercises in-clinic first so the doctor can verify your form and make adjustments. Proper form is everything.
You'll receive a written and/or video-guided home program. We use simple, equipment-free exercises you can do in 10–15 minutes per day.
We progress your program at each visit as you get stronger. Most patients graduate from care with a long-term maintenance program.
