The same taping technique used by Olympic athletes and professional sports teams — applied by certified providers who know exactly where and how to tape.
Kinesio-taping uses a specialized elastic therapeutic tape applied to the skin in specific patterns to support muscles and joints, reduce swelling, improve circulation, and enhance athletic performance. Unlike rigid athletic tape that restricts movement, Kinesio tape is flexible and moves with your body. The tape's elasticity creates a lifting effect on the skin, which decompresses the tissue beneath, improving lymphatic drainage and reducing inflammation. At SSC of Chicago, Kinesio-taping is used as a complement to chiropractic care, ART®, and rehabilitation — never as a standalone treatment. Our doctors are trained in proper application techniques for maximum therapeutic benefit.
Your provider will assess the area to be taped and determine the appropriate taping pattern based on your condition and goals.
The skin is cleaned and dried before application. Any hair in the area may need to be shaved for proper adhesion.
The tape is applied in specific patterns with precise tension — too much or too little changes the therapeutic effect significantly.
You'll feel a gentle lifting sensation on the skin. The tape should be comfortable — if it's painful or causes skin irritation, let us know immediately.
The tape typically lasts 3–5 days. You can shower and swim with it on. Remove gently — never rip it off quickly.
